Op-Ed: What’s wrong with the College Football Playoff? There needs to be more for athletes.

USA TODAY published an opinion article by Knight Commission Co-Chair Arne Duncan and member Jacques McClendon, highlighting the need for the College Football Playoff to halt expansion until it reforms itself to prioritize and support college athlete health, safety and well-being.

“Put simply, the playoff should require that most of its lucrative revenue distributions be earmarked, for the first time, to specifically advance athlete health, safety and education.

Expansion without reform will worsen the badly skewed priorities of big-revenue football – where exorbitant salaries and multimillion-dollar buyouts for Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) coaches are only the most glaring symptoms of a warped financial model that places a premium on spending for competitive advantage.
